Meet the Author - Dakota Madison (Be Good)

What are your goals as a writer? My main goal is to entertain people. I write books that people can take to the beach and finish in an hour or two.

What books have most influenced your life? I didn’t think about writing romance novels until I read three books: Beautiful Disaster, Easy and Slammed. I fell in love with those three contemporary romance novels and they opened up the world of the New Adult Romance to me as a writer.

Have you ever considered anyone as a mentor? I own a lot to Hal Croasmun and Screenwriting U Proseries Alumni (PSA). They are a wonderful community of writers and I wouldn’t be where I am today without their guidance and support.

Who is your favorite author and why? I have three favorites: L. Frank Baum (The Wonderful Wizard of Oz); Lewis Carroll (Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland) and Stieg Larsson (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series). All three men created wonderful, strong and iconic female characters who are loved by millions of readers.

Are you reading any interesting books at the moment? I have to give kudos to Charles Sheehan-Miles. He writes wonderful romance novels and I just picked up his latest book, The Last Hour.

What are some of the best tools available today for writers, especially those just starting out? I can’t say enough about Kindle Direct Publishing and Createspace. They make getting one’s work out to readers quick and easy.

Do you have any advice for writers? Write every day. Finish your project even if it’s not perfect. Then immediately start on your next project.

Do you have any specific last thoughts that you want to say to your readers? I realize that you won’t like everything you read and it’s okay to write honest reviews but try not to be mean. Remember, we’re people, too, and we have feelings.

What do you do to unwind and relax? Read and write. What else is there?

What dreams have been realized as a result of your writing? My dream has always been to write.

When you wish to end your career, stop writing, and look back on your life, what thoughts would you like to have? They’ll have to rip the laptop out of my cold dead hands. That’s the only time I’ll stop writing.
